The Inside-Out Center is the International Headquarters of The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program and Alternative Dialogue and Exchange Initiatives. Inside-Out has many people involved in both its big-picture and day-to-day operations, including the Center’s Team (pictured below); the Board of Directors (photos coming on a separate page); our growing team of formerly-incarcerated coaches, who are centrally involved in trainings and workshops (a dedicated page to come); several Think Tanks throughout our global network (section to come); and both a Program Committee and a Funding Committee.
Founder and Executive Director
Email: lori.pompa@inside-out-center.org
pompa.lori@gmail.com
Lori has been going into prisons for 40+ years and has taken thousands of students (and others) into correctional facilities through a variety of courses and exchanges during that time. She was on the Criminal Justice faculty at Temple University for 33 years (1992 until 2025), and served as Founder and Executive Director of The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program there for 28 years. Inside-Out has recently transitioned into becoming a nonprofit organization.
Lori began Inside-Out as a single class in 1997 in a local jail. As a 2003 Soros Justice Senior Fellow, she collaborated with many others on both sides of the prison wall to develop Inside-Out into an international model of transformative pedagogy. The program has grown in breadth and depth over the years, quite organically, developing – across Inside-Out’s global network – all sorts of bold, creative initiatives along the way.
Besides this ever-expanding life’s work, Lori loves playing and listening to music, as well as reading, streaming films and TV series, playing online games, and hanging out with friends. Though she is not a “cat woman” per se, her two buds, Shawn and Dino, have a special fuzzy place in her heart. One of her most central beliefs, which she lives by, is – Do what you love… the rest will come.
